About

EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater presents The Human Experience student dance showcase 2026 directed by Theresse Weigand-Watkinson. The Human Experience is about the deep emotions that other living creatures don’t experience, and is a concert experience completely choreographed and designed by ACT students.

The performance will be Friday June 5th and Saturday June 6th at 7pm in the David J. Calchera Theater at Arts at the Capitol Theater, 896 Main Street, Willimantic.

The company is comprised of student artistic director Amaree McKnight (North Windham, 12), student assistant artistic director Jarynelis Rodriguez Luna (Willimantic, 11), student media manager Haley Rivera (Willimantic, 12) assisted by Winslow Metivier (Meriden, 11), and student costume director Eva Flemming (Mansfield, 12) assisted by Prudence Canoza (Uncasville, 11). They worked alongside Jayda Sanchez (Willimantic, 12) and Ray Smith (Columbia, 12) to choreograph 15 original pieces. They are joined by students throughout the dance, acting, media arts, and music departments, including seniors Emma Magistri (South Windham), Oisin Wallace (Ashford), Izabella Garceau (Lebanon), and My Keomanivong (Stafford Springs); juniors Alec Soto (Willimantic), Jehieli Blanco (North Windham), Aliyah Rosario (Manchester), Hunter Deck (Preston), Mia Rivera-Strate (Mansfield), Toby Rios (Stafford Springs), and Ramiyah Johnson (Groton); sophomore Melina Campbell (North Windham); and freshmen Lynnea Jenkins (Norwich), Ariane Parnell (Stafford Springs), Michael Campbell (North Windham), Amaya Mills (Danielson), and Wileishka Rivera Rivera (Willimantic).

Here are some small glimpses into some of the senior works showcased in the show - In Nostalgia is Falling Apart by Haley Rivera, two friends must come to terms with growing up and growing apart, and through contemporary choreography must discover how to reminisce. Using classic hip-hop and modern commercial jazz, Hubris by Jayda Sanchez explores over-confidence and how it affects our relationships with the people around us. Hate is the only emotion in Cogito, Ergo Sum by Amaree McKnight, showing how hate spreads between everyone. What it means to be human will truly be explored.

Tickets can be pre-purchased online. Additionally, the Box Office will open one hour before each show for walk up ticket sales with cash or check. Out of respect for our performers, doors will close to new patrons 10 minutes after the show begins.

Adults $15, Children/Seniors/Students/Military $10, and ACT Students & Alumni/EASTCONN Employees $5. Join Us for an incredible evening of dance!

NOTES: Water-based haze and flashing lights will be in use and this performance includes depictions of violence and self-harm.

While limited on-street parking is available, we suggest using the Walnut St parking garage. The garage is a short walk from our Main Street entrance through which all patrons should enter.
