Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! in San Diego

Wednesday December 3 2025
Join us for a magical holiday experience at Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! at the Old Globe Theatre. This whimsical musical brings the beloved Dr. Seuss story to life with favorite songs including “Santa for a Day,” “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” and “Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze).” Now in its 28th year, this family favorite transforms the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage into the snow-covered Who-ville, right down to the last can of Who-hash. The production runs 1 hour and 20 minutes with no intermission. Students must arrive by 9:30 a.m. so we can check in and enter as a group. The show begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. Tickets will be purchased for BEST Academy students and one parent per student. Healthy Cooking Demo in San Diego

Thursday December 4 2025
Students ages 8 and older will explore healthy eating habits and learn the basics of nutrition during this fun, hands-on cooking class at the Otay Mesa-Nestor Branch Library! Participants will discover how to make smart food choices and prepare a simple, healthy meal/snack to enjoy. University of California Riverside Campus Tour

Thursday December 4 2025
High school students will visit UC Riverside to explore campus life and academic opportunities. Students will have lunch on campus at 12:00pm, followed by a guided 45–60 minute tour beginning at 1:00 p.m. During the visit, they’ll learn about campus resources, academic programs, and student life opportunities available to future Highlanders. Transportation will be provided from Indio with two options available. A bus will depart from Indio at 10:00 a.m. and arrive at UC Riverside by 12:00 p.m. The return bus will leave Riverside at 3:00 p.m. and arrive back in Indio at 5:00 p.m. Parents also have the option of driving their students directly to campus. They are welcome to stay for the visit or drop students off and return for pick-up.

During this interactive lesson, they’ll make their own cinnamon sugar buns from homemade biscuit dough with frosting and learn about measurements, ingredients, and basic baking techniques. Lil’ Chefs can accommodate some food allergies, but it is not a gluten-free facility. Parents must complete a release of liability form before the event. Orange County Waste & Recycling Tour in Irvine

Have you ever wondered what happens to your garbage when you throw it away? Come visit the Frank Bowerman Landfill in Irvine and find out! You will get the chance to see that this is more than just a landfill. Designed by environmental engineers, you get a personalized view of how landfills and composting facilities work. OC Waste & Recycling staff members, biologists, and engineers will give you a tour and teach you about habitat restoration and the environmental controls they have in place. You will see how landfill gas creates green energy & how Falcons work to keep seagulls out of the trash. The tour is 1.5 hours long and participants must be age 5 or older. Cowles Mountain Hike in San Diego

Students and families will meet at the base of Cowles Mountain for a guided hike led by our teachers. As they climb the trail, participants will enjoy scenic views, learn about local plants and wildlife, and experience one of San Diego’s most popular outdoor landmarks. This field trip offers a fun and educational opportunity to explore nature, build endurance, and connect as a community while enjoying the beautiful mountain setting. Please note that this is a challenging hike, best suited for students in grades 7th–12th, or younger children with good endurance and the support of an accompanying adult. HIKING CLUB: Annie’s Canyon Trail

Join us for the inaugural meeting of the BEST Hiking Club as we explore the beautiful Annie’s Canyon Trail in Solana Beach! This scenic hike takes families through the sandstone slot canyons and along the San Elijo Lagoon, offering incredible views and a fun outdoor adventure for all ages. We will meet at 9:45 AM at the end of Solana Hills Drive to take a group photo before beginning the hike at 10:00 AM. The trail is approximately two miles round-trip and rated easy to moderate, making it a great choice for families and beginner hikers. Please note that dogs are not permitted on this trail. Street parking is available along Solana Hills Drive near the trailhead. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and a hat. Orange County Water Treatment Plant Tour in Fountain Valley

Join us on a tour of the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS). GWRS is the world’s largest advanced water purification system for potable reuse, producing 130 million gallons of high-quality water daily that meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards and creating a highly reliable source of water for Orange County. Students will explore the night sky with a guided tour of current constellations before embarking on a virtual journey through the Solar System with Dr. Sally Mander and Commander Light Buzzyear. Using the state-of-the-art Digistar 7 system, students will see the latest images of planets, moons, comets, and asteroids while learning fascinating facts along the way. The experience concludes with a live Q&A session hosted by professional astronomers. Please note: for safety reasons, children under 5 are not permitted inside the Planetarium. High school seniors are going on their last field trip to Sea World! It will be a fun activity for all seniors. Admission and meals are included for seniors. Transportation will be provided at 8:45am from 4035 Beyer Blvd., San Ysidro, CA 92173 for students who might need it. Parents are welcome to drive and drop off students at 9:30am at SeaWorld. There will be a mandatory assembly for parents and students with tickets to review important information. Please keep in mind that in order to attend the field trip, seniors must complete all graduation requirements.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Students will experience the world’s largest rotating tram cars as they journey from the desert floor at 2,643 feet to the Mountain Station at 8,516 feet in Mt. San Jacinto State Park. Along the way, they’ll learn about changes in climate, geography, and local ecosystems while observing stunning views of the Coachella Valley. Once at the top, students can explore observation decks, enjoy nature walks, and discover how this unique transportation system was engineered. Lunch will be provided for all participating students. San Diego State University Campus Tour

High school students are invited to join a campus tour at San Diego State University at 10:30 AM. The 45-minute guided tour will begin at the Prospective Student Center, located in the Student Service West building at the base of the clock tower. After the tour, we will visit additional resource centers on campus. Students will receive information about admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and housing. We will also be staying for lunch at Cuicacalli Suites, which offers an all-you-can-eat dining experience so students can get a taste of campus life. Parents may drop students off directly or stay on campus if they wish to observe or join the group.

With interactive exhibits, animal presentations, and beautiful botanical gardens, this field trip promises both education and adventure for all ages. Lunch meal tickets will be provided for students only. Option 1: Tickets will be provided for BEST Academy students and one parent per student. This is the first of hopefully many hockey nights this year, and we can’t wait to pack the stands with BEST pride. Expect the boards to rattle, the crowd to roar, and plenty of chances to chant “Let’s Go Gulls!” as our hometown team hits the ice. Fun fact: the San Diego Gulls are one of the most storied franchises in the AHL, with a fan base known for bringing the energy every single game! Open gym time offers a fun and active way for children to develop their physical and mental health while engaging in wholesome exercise that also supports cognitive and social growth. Popular features of the facility include gymnastics bars, boxes, and a foam pit. Tickets will be provided for BEST Academy students only. Glass Fusing Workshop with San Diego Craft

Join us for a fun and creative outdoor Glass Fusing Workshop, where kids will design their own suncatcher or night light by layering colorful pieces of glass. Each project will be kiln-fired and delivered once complete, as the finished pieces won’t be ready to take home immediately. All materials, instruction, and kiln firing are included. The workshop will take place outdoors, so please ensure children wear closed-toed shoes, bring water, and wear sunscreen. A signed waiver is required for each child; parents can either email the waiver ahead of time or bring it on the day of the event. Parents must stay on site with their child throughout the event; dropping off and leaving is not permitted.
