Our Fine Arts department is planning an optional evening field trip for students in advanced Fine Arts classes to attend Broadway at the Bass on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 7:30 PM. We are able to offer tickets at a special student price of $20 through Broadway at the Bass’s Bridge Program. Students will also need to bring money for dinner. This trip is intended as an enrichment opportunity that connects directly to what students are learning in music, theatre, and dance.
Some Like It Hot is a fast-paced musical comedy set in the 1920s about two musicians who accidentally witness a crime and must go into hiding by joining a touring band under assumed identities. The story centers on humorous misunderstandings, romantic mix-ups, and characters learning the importance of honesty and being true to themselves. It uses classic mistaken-identity comedy similar to traditional musical comedies and includes light romantic humor and innuendo. The show is listed as appropriate for ages 10+ and does not contain nudity or explicit content.

SMS Choir - Dallas Opera Field Trip

Students will experience a live performance of The Little Prince accompanied by The Dallas Opera Orchestra at the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House! Based on the classic book, The Little Prince is a G-rated story about a pilot and a young boy from a faraway asteroid. It’s the perfect introduction to opera. The performance is November 11 at 10:30am and include a 20-minute “behind-the-scenes” discussion with the cast and production staff after each performance.
This field trip is open to choir and theater students. To be eligible, students must have passing grades for the first and second six weeks and not have a placement of ISS or DAEP during the 2nd Six Weeks.
The show starts at 10:30 a.m. We will stop for lunch on the way back, and students should bring money as it will be at their own expense.
**We only have 45 student spots and 3 chaperone spots available so get you spot reserved asap!

Attending a dress rehearsal of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra provides students with an invaluable experience that offers a direct, tangible connection to the concepts of our Music Appreciation course. This field trip serves as a real-world application that allows students to analyze and describe the elements of music—including rhythm, melody, and harmony—in a live setting.
Seeing the musicians in person, feeling the vibrations, and seeing the collaborative effort of the entire ensemble highlights the fundamental difference between a live performance and a recording. This hands-on experience deepens their appreciation for music and makes it a much more personal, relatable experience. In past years, students have spoken in very positively about enjoying and learning from the experience so much more than they thought they would.
