Set in Florida in the early 90's, Marvin's Room is a touching dark comedy about familial obligation and intergenerational connections. Overworked and under-appreciated Bessie is the main caretaker for her elderly father and aunt until she is diagnosed with leukemia. Hoping to find a bone marrow donor, she asks her estranged sister Lee to return to their childhood home. The arrival of Lee, with her two troubled teenage sons in tow, brings up suppressed emotions, painful memories, and difficult conversations. As Bessie and Lee rehash the traumas of their past relationship, the entire family must grapple with the complicated topics of illness, resentment, and forgiveness.
Marvin's Room runs October 4 - 7, 2023 in the Black Box.
