Join Continental Ballet Company, Concerto Dance, and Threads Dance Project in a participatory day of dance discovery! Youth and adult workshops and masterclasses will be taught between 12:30-5:30pm, with the day concluding in a 7pm Black Box Theater performance featuring all companies.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Ballet - Students will engage in a ballet class that is focused on the Classical Ballet Technique led by professional members of the Continental Ballet Company.
 
Jazz - Students will engage in a jazz dance class taught by Concerto Dance that focuses on our signature style blending vernacular and classical jazz dance in a virtuosic, high energy and highly musical context. Classes draw from the historical African roots of jazz with European influences that emerged out of an American context. Students will focus on the characteristics of jazz dance including; rhythm, musicality, improvisation, groove, and community. Classes consist of guided warm up exercises and a short dance sequence, allowing participants to experience the freedom, joy and community found in jazz dance.
 
Modern - Join Threads Dance Project for a Horton-based modern dance class. Focusing on strength, flexibility, and coordination through fortifications, lateral stretches, and expansive movements, students will explore the foundational elements of modern dance. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or new to modern, this class offers an enriching experience that deepens your understanding of modern dance fundamentals while enhancing your overall dance technique.
 
Hip Hop - This class offers dancers an opportunity to experience the fast-paced and high energy dance style of hip -hop influenced by social street dance and urban vernacular. Hip hop encompasses a wide range of street styles including breaking, locking and popping. This class specifically focuses on developing rhythm, funky footwork and individual style.
 

YOUTH

Youth classes are geared toward participants ages 10-14 and are offered for students who are both new to dance and for those with more experience. Each class is taught by a professional dance educator and includes guided exercises followed by a learned dance combination. Dancers can take up to 2 classes. All are welcome.

  • Beginner/Open Level – Little to no previous experience required.
  • Int/Adv - Previous experience required.

ADULT

Adult classes are geared toward participants ages 15 and up and offered for those who are both new to dance and for experienced dancers. Each class is taught by a professional from the community in the dance discipline listed. Dancers can take up to 2 classes. All are welcome.

  • Open Level – Little or some previous experience.
  • Int./Adv. – Previous experience required.  Int/Adv. dancers, pre-professional and professionals welcome.
