Egyptian Saidi Folkloric Dance

Location
Rocklin Event Center
2650 Sunset Blvd, Rocklin CA 95677
About
Saidi folkloric dance is one of the most prominent dances in Upper Egypt (South of Egypt) based on the ancient martial art of Tahtib. This energetic dance is danced by both men and women. It develops flexibility and emphasizes the ability to control the cane or stick while framing the dancer’s movements.
In this workshop, you will gain a foundational understanding of the history, the Saidi rhythm and skills dancing the modern version of the Saidi dance from the South of Egypt. You will also gain an understanding of the differences between the age-old male version of the dance and the more modern female version of the dance developed for theater.
