About

A night of three performances, come see two amazing Diploma Program senior recitals, and the debut of an original dance co-created by East Bay Center students in collaboration with renowned choreographer Robert Moses!

Senior Recitals:

Belen Islas and Amadi Ji Jaga are two graduating seniors from the Young Artist Diploma Program. Each recital acts as a capstone of their time here at East Bay Center, showcasing their skills, passion, and creativity in an original performance.

Belen will be performing a song she wrote reflecting on the experience of graduating from high school. Amadi will present original arrangements of songs that have inspired her as a musician, singing over self-produced backing tracks.

In Visibility:

At a moment when the call to amplify the voices of impacted communities feels louder than ever, In Visibility emerges as a powerful response. Co-created by East Bay Center for the Performing Arts’ Dance students and faculty in collaboration with renowned choreographer Robert Moses and his company, Robert Moses’ Kin, this profound new performance centers the lived realities, perspectives, and creative vision of Richmond youth.

What makes In Visibility especially meaningful is that it is shaped by the students themselves — their stories, questions, and hopes. The piece nurtures and amplifies student voice, allowing them to take the lead in challenging imposed narratives and reimagining their future through movement and storytelling.

In Visibility confronts harmful stereotypes, reclaims agency, and makes visible what systemic oppression seeks to erase. By breaking through limiting narratives, it fosters understanding, inspires dialogue, and illuminates the resilience and power of Richmond’s next generation.

This transformative work is made possible in part by The Creative Work Fund, a program of the Walter & Elise Haas Fund with support from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
